How I know I've been in Sydney for 3 months

Holy crap it's 3 months today.

  • 19 degrees already feels sort of chilly.
  • $12 for a workday takeaway lunch sounds cheap.
  • I now say takeaway instead of takeout.
  • I look right when I cross the street.
  • I order a schooner of beer.
  • I have worked out what a flat white and a long black are.
  • I've finally stopped entering 604 when dialling a call.
  • I have a NSW driver's license, City of Sydney Library card, Fitness First membership, Aussie tax ID number and Medicare. I am defenitely on the grid.
  • $550 a week for rent sounds like a good deal.
  • I hate Neighbors and Home and Away.
  • I really really miss copious amounts of sushi for cheap.
  • I'm sort of getting used to not be able to turn left on a red light when it's clear.
  • I'm used to prime time TV shows starting on the half hour.
  • I already don't know who any of the Canucks are.
  • I no longer walk around to the left side of the car to get in.
  • I bought Uggs to get me through the winter in an unheated apartment unit. (heh I said unit)
  • Iguanas are the new squirrels. Haven't hit one with the car yet.

I'm with you on the sushi. All the fresh tortillas and pico in the world can't make up for a $5 kappa maki and spicy tuna combo.

No, you have to have an allegiance to either Neighbours (don't forget the 'u') and Home and Away. Mine is for the former.

    Happy 3 months!

How can you hate Home and Away and Neighbours? I'm an Aussie now living in the U.S. and I'm sad that I don't get to see it. Well, actually, that if I did see it on t.v. here I wouldn't know who anyone is!

That's a crazy list. I'm especially stuck on "iguanas are the new squirrels".

The best cheap sushi I know around Sydney is the sushi train in the George St cinemas (I know, with a description like that it sounds like it's going to suck but I swear it's the only sushi train that doesn't).

There's also a great little hole-in-the-wall Japanese place on Sussex St across the road from Darling Park. Email me if you'd like directions to get there, no way I'm sharing it with the whole interweb! :)
