Rare One

OK - I just heard about their blog and the place opens tomorrow. Rare One is a new restaurant going into the old Bis Moreno space on Hornby Street. I'm digging this page cause they documented a bunch of the start-up stage with pics too. (Not as much drama as Rocco's though) Opening night is this Saturday.

Wallpaper*

Hey, Vancouver is in Wallpaper again!

I agree with the list of things to do: Chinatown, Stanley Park, view from the Granville Bridge but, um, I don’t think I’d go for a swim at the Vancouver Aquarium.

Also, not sure I completely agree with the 5 things to buy list. Here are my 5 things that I’d make sure people brought home from Vancouver:
  • Something outdoorsy from MEC. OK, it’s not my cup of tea (I am dangerously allergic to fleece) but anything at Pacific Boarder is just going to be available anywhere else anyway.
  • A t-shirt from Motherland is cool but the experiece at Bang-On or The Regional Assemby of Text is way more fun.
  • Green tea from Infuse? How about Green Tea ice cream from La Casa Gelato or any of the other 217 flavors. I like Sweet Basil. Yum!
  • I don’t know if a ceramic sushi set is very Vancouver but there are some great modern ceramics made for Caban.
  • I kind of like Bed but I’ve never bought anything there.

They’ve done a good job on the list of shops, hotels, restaurants and bars. Everything on the list is somewhere I’d send out of towners.

    time to get busy!

    0244
Have been lame lately. Stuck inside for most of January, not going out much, not spending, eating too much, got getting to the gym. I’ve even been in a food rut, cooking the same dinners and eating the same lunches all the time. Hey, I’m not making excuses, but it’s time to bust a move. It’s practically the end of March. The weather is more inspiring to get out, take more pictures, meet up with people, try new restaurants, catch up with friends, cook new food.

  • Don’t know where January went or February for that matter.
  • Hawaii was good but the trip was way too quick. I am now convinced that we live in the worng climate. I need tropical weather and beaches that I’d actually go to.
  • Took a photography class from this guy. He likes nature shots, I like building and macro shots but it was totally helpful for me to figure out my new camera.
  • I am obsessed with Flickr.
  • Been watching a boatload of TV lately. Too much. But Project Runway is on and Top Model just started.
  • I would watch Desperate Housewives again if Jared Leto was on it.
  • Been bummed byt the Canucks lately. When can we trade Bersnoozzi?
