Good Art in Bondi

While shopping for Christmas pressies, I came across two fab places to find interesting art to adorn your walls. Both have web sites that are really well done too.

The first is Antonio Ruggerino's vintage poster gallery - which is in his home.
Tony had been in Bondi for awhile with a store front gallery but has now moved the gallery into his light, open lounge room where he's happy to show you dozens, if not hundreds, of rare vintage posters of all shapes and sizes. He wears white gloves to protect the pieces and doesn't have any of those common posters you've probably seen - like those Campari and Italian pasta ads. His are much better. Check out Tony's bio here - it was meant to be.

Aquabumps is just around the corner from us on Brighton Blvd in North Bondi and is all about surf. The gallery is tiny and completely open fronted so you can smell the sea air as you take in the shots of surf around the Sydney area. You can pick up small ready-made prints in mats or order larger prints that take around a week to produce. The website has surf reports and all kinds of links to notice boards, tonnes more photos and other ocean related stuff.

Synergies, man

So I slag on Toronto a couple of days ago and the Kurtenblog rips into them the very next day? It's like they're reading my mind....

Shopping in Melbourne

Yarra-Prahran-Windsor Shopping

Been going to Melbourne for work lately. There's a real Sydney-Melbourne rivalry much like the Vancouver-Toronto deal. Sydney/Vancouver has the better weather. Maybe, someone will say, but Toronto/Melbourne is the foodier, more cosmopolitan city. Whatever! I dig them all, oh, except Toronto.

Stayed at a girlfriend's in Windsor so had to go shopping on Chapel Street. Full of fantastic shops, cafes and bars. Highlights:

There's a Lululemon here! I was jonesing for some Groove Pants! Funny part is that as soon as I walked in the door and looked around, the Canadian guy (who seemed to be the manager) came over to me and said "It's exactly like home, eh?" I hadn't said a word! How did he know I was Canadian? Eerie! (It is a LOT like the Robson store.) Next time I'm in, I'm going back for some Still Crops.

A new fave of mine is Scanlan and Theodore. Found a lovely T-shirt then turned over the tag. $120 on sale?! My shopping partner reminded me that I had just bought yoga pants for $110 and I was only going to wear them to the gym and the top is a gorgeous blue with lovely cap sleeves. She was right. Had to buy the top.

Also picked up a cardie at Gorman. Very cute with all mismatched buttons. And stopped in at Kit for a new lipgloss cause I need more more more!

Anyhoo, love Melbourne. Love Chapel Street. I'm going back this weekend to get together with my new boyfriend Andy Roddick at the Australian Open.

Oh and I just watched Vancouver kick some Leafs ass. Who's the better city now? Ha!
