More to love in Vancouver

What I like about Vancouver

Shopping in SFO was fantastic - I spent a bomb at Marc Jacobs on Filmore St (I think I bought one of everything), found a pair of used Ferragamo boots for $28 bucks in my favourite pre-loved clothes shop and spent a little time in Bloomingdales - picking up some gorgeous Juicy bracelets and earrings at a quarter of the price I'd pay in Australia. So much fun! But it really pooped me out and is heavily contributing to the jetlag I'm feeling.

So here's what I love about Vancouver - just some things I only noticed that I miss once I got back here.

Firstly - a white Christmas! It's snowing right now! It's wet heavy Vancouver snow but I don't care.

Pay a the pump - it's cold out and the less time I spend out there the better. Why don't we have this in Sydney?

My favourite, favourite Hot & Sour Soup from my favourite no frills Chinese restaurant at Main & Broadway. Used to be called Ho Tak Kee - now it's New Maple. Same food tho. Go figure. The soup is still $6 bucks! And plates of BBQ Pork on Rice are still $3.50. Sweet.

Cheap Coke. Seriously $2.43?

Shopping in San Francisco

When Air canada hands you lemons, you make lemonade. The rat bastards changed my flights so I have a 10 hour layover in SFO. 10 hours!!!

So I'm going shopping.

SFO Shopping

I've mapped out: Sephora, H&M, Saks, Neimans, Ferragamo, Marc Jacobs, Ted Baker, Sur La table, Victoria Secret, Agnes B, Crate & Barrell etc etc Basically all the American shopping they don't have in Vancouver. Anything I've missed?

I must report back - I'm looking forward to marc jacobs the most.

(Don't know if you noticed I haven't posted much lately but between the silly season and working for a Christmas company, it's been pretty busy.)

I ♥ Melbourne

Anytime there's an opportunity to go to Melbourne for work, I put up my hand. It's a cool town with great shopping and food plus is decidedly cheaper to get a beer. What's not to love?

So I've been twice in the past month...fave hotel? The Prince. Hands down. For the price ($195 for a basic room) it's perfect. It's a modern boutique hotel with a spa, pool, great pub and coffeeshop/bakery in St Kilda. Bliss!

But I couldn't get in to the Prince last week (horror!) PLUS couldn't even find a hotel I wanted to stay in for 2 nights in a row so I did a 'boutique motel' tour.

First night - the Cosmopilitan in St Kilda. It's the same price as the Prince for a basic room. The room had a kitchenette but the hotel doesn't have all the ammenities. Great location. Room was very nice and modern. The restaurant downstairs is good too. I'd stay again.

Then I stayed at the Albany in South Yarra. It looks cute on the website and you can see that they're trying to be modern and cool. But they've just put cheap modern furniture and a coat of paint on an old motel. This one just isn't as good at the Prince and Cosmopolitan plus doesn't have almost any amenities. For the money (it was only $139 a night) it just scrapes by. For the price, I'd rather stay at the Novotel in St Kilda.
